Have you ever wondered what does Walter de’Silva, the Head of design for the Volkswagen Group, like to do when he’s not summoning creatures like the Audi A5 or the Volkswagen Scirocco?
No, he doesn’t sleep. Ever. Instead, the designer likes to work his magic on other technological creations, such as photo cameras. And he only plays with the best: de’Silva’s imagination came to wrap Leica’s latest technology, giving birth to the Leica M9 Titanium, a ultra-special edition of the fancy gadget.
Only 500 mortals will have the chance to capture the world through the camera’s SUMMILUX-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH lens, which comes with solid titanium exterior components. Its exposed surfaces are treated with a hard-coating applied by a specialized company in Switzerland. The monitor uses scratch-resistant, sapphire-crystal glass. The camera’s trim uses Audi leather. The icing on the cake is the Leica logo, which has been restyled and hand-engraved in pure resin, inlaid with white enamel, sealed with a clear varnish and then polished.
The designer went deep into the camera’s soul, not only improving its design, but also focusing on its handling and technical specifications. Now, M9 has been gifted with LED illumination on the bright-line frames in the viewfinder. The camera also replaces the conventional strap lugs with a metal finger loops covered in Nappa leather that comes from Audi.
The list of refinements also includes a stylish shoulder holster that protects the camera and lens during transport and keeps it “loaded”.
The Leica M9 Titanium combines passion with technology and is ready to become yours for 19,800 pounds ($30,897 or EUR 23,619). Yes, that is an amount of money which can also buy you a proper Audi.
