VW Schloss Bensberg Classics, in September

The second edition of the Schloss Bensberg Classics, an event organized by German manufacturer Volkswagen to combine both a Rallye Historique and a Concours d’Elegance, will open its doors on September 10, promising a display of some amazing machines.

The carmaker promises those attending will get a chance to see both vintage and future vehicles, including the Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopo, the Volkswagen Cheetah Roadster and the new Porsche 918 Spyder.

In all, some 40 “of the most beautiful vintage cars in the world” will be competing in a total of seven categories of the Concours d’Elegance: Pre-War Open, Pre-War Closed, Post-War Open, Post-War Closed, Italian Elegance, Show Cars and Four-Door Sports Cars (newly-created category).

Judging the cars according to the rules of the FIVA International Association will be a panel comprising of automotive legends like Walter de’Silva, Sandra Button, Giorgetto Giugiaro, Jacky Ickx, Chris Bangle, Wim Oude Weernink, Eckhard Schimpf, Bernd Ostmann and Jurgen Lewandowski.

The Rallye Historique will comprise a 190-kilometre tour around the Bergische Land region. The Rallye will start/finish at the Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg and will see 60 classic cars competing for the win and glory. Volkswagen says a large section of this year’s course is new compared to the one in 2009.

“Beauty meets elegance meets dynamism: the first Schloss Bensburg Classics was a huge success and inspired everyone who came, including all the participants, visitors and specialist journalists from around the world,” the carmaker says on the event's website.

“Experience and enjoy fascinating, historic automobiles and an exciting, unforgettable weekend at Schloss Bensberg with us. I await the second Schloss Bensberg Classics with great anticipation, and I will be delighted to have you with us,” adds Thomas H. Althoff, president of the Grand Hotel Schloss Bensberg.
