Following the announcement that production of the Routan had been halted, rumors began to surface that the van was being killed off for good. However, VW has since confirmed that production will resume in 2013.
However, a new twist has been put on the story. Leftlane has learned that the Routan will no longer be available at VW retailers and will be relegated to the role of fleet car. It sounds to us like an official decision is still pending!

The Routan was launched in 2008, built on the same body as the Chrysler Town & Country, which will soon be replaced by a new model. Sales have been sluggish to say the least due mainly to the increase price over the Chrysler version, and VW would be wise to move out of this segment altogether and focus on its more desirable SUVs.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
