You can get an idea of what awaits you in the automotive industry if you take a look at what happened earlier this week in Wolfsburg. There, 133 graduates from ten European countries who successfully completed the 2011 qualification program were awarded the Volkswagen Diploma right from the hands of the group's Sales, Marketing and After Sales board member, Christian Klingler.
“Volkswagen’s mission is to exceed customers’ expectations. We are on the right track with attractive and efficient models and a highly qualified and motivated sales team,” the executive said at the ceremony.
The 133 people, all from the sale departments of the manufacturer, are just a small fraction of what the sales division represents. Worldwide, Volkswagen employs 30,000 salespersons, all of which are required to enter a qualification program that is meant to keep them in the loop with the latest progress.
The program includes basic training, designed to develop sales competence and to extend knowledge of the product range, customer loyalty and acquisition.
“We are living in an age when salespersons must be more than just experts in product facts and figures. They must also possess expert people skills. Training at Volkswagen focuses very closely on this,” added Stephan Wollenstein, head of Sales Strategy and Business Development at Volkswagen Passenger Cars.
