Manufactured in the United States as a competitor to the likes of the Audi A4, the Volvo S60 gets even better for British customers thanks to the introduction of the T8 Twin Engine. The plug-in hybrid option churns out 390 horsepower while the Polestar Engineered package levels up to 405 horsepower.
That’s not all, though. The T5 has welcomed the R-Design Plus and Inscription Plus trim levels, with the latter featuring premium materials such as Nappa leather upholstery and Driftwood interior inlays. A more comfort-oriented suspension is utilized in the T5 Inscription Plus and T8 Twin Engine R-Design Plus, which should help the driver and passengers of the S60 on the long haul.
Priced at £37,935 for the T5 R-Design Plus, the S60 is also available from £299 per month on PCH finance. The range-topping powertrain will set you back £49,805, and for the time being, Polestar Engineered pricing still is a mystery.
Underpinned by the Scalable Product Architecture of the XC60 and S90, the smallest sedan from Volvo comes standard with Sensus touchscreen and voice-activated infotainment, adaptive LED headlamps, two-zone climate control, heated front seats, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The R-Design Plus adds a head-up display, sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles, and a lowered sports chassis in the case of the T5. Level up to the Inscription Plus, and you’re treated to goodies such as cooling in the memory seats and lots of chrome garnish.
The combined fuel economy in British miles per gallon is 39.8 for the T5 and 176.5 for the T8, equivalent to 149 and 39 grams of CO2 per kilometer. “With the R-Design Plus and Inscription Plus, we can offer the choice of a more focused driving experience or something more luxurious – qualities that resonate strongly with private owners and business users in the premium mid-size saloon market,” said sales director Matt Galvin.
In terms of standard safety gear, the S60 is likely the best buy in the segment. For everything else, think of the Volvo as a capable alternative to the ever-present German trio from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz.
