One of the most iconic of them, the 760 is turning 30 this month. The carmaker explains that the boxy design of the car was seriously influenced by the company decision to cut costs. The vehicle as lighter than the 240 even though it had grown in size, with its tech features being borrowed from the 200 series, due to the same economical reasons.
Did all that pay out? Let’s hear it in Volvo’s words: “In total 221,309 units of the 760 were made (1,230,704 including the 740) before it was replaced in the autumn of 1990 by the more modern 960. By then, the 760 had been a profit-maker and prestige-builder par excellence for Volvo Car Corporation for almost a decade.”
