The Qatar Auto Show, which opened its gates today is really aimed at offering a world-class level of four-wheel madness. To be more precise, automakers from all over the world are racing to offer us creations that like to play extreme games.

Let’s take Volkswagen for example. The German company introduced two special version of the Touareg at the even: a street-legal incarnation of the Race Touareg 3, dubbed Qatar, and the Touareg Gold Edition. This piece of news is dedicated to the first, which is one of those rare monsters that comes to fulfill the “race car on (should we say “off”?) the road” dream.

We are talking about a tamer version of the Touareg 3 that took part in the 2011 Dakar Rally earlier this month. The vehicle, which offers 310 hp, has ditched the 16-inch rims for a set of gold-finished 18-inch ones (coming from BBS), with the body receiving slight mods that allow the vehicle to be used on public roads. The car is dressed on “Magic Morning” and comes with golden “Race Touareg” side decals.

The interior was completely transformed, with the only unchanged element being the the roll cage. The passengers can enjoy Recaro racing seats, a “Stealth” look, as well as a center console that proudly displays anodized aluminum representations of the Dakar victories.

The list of interior goodies also includes Matt Carbon trimming, a Nubuk leather finish for the seat side supports and the door trim panels, a perforated Nappa leather finish for the centre seat panels and Tornado Red-finished safety items.

Before we end the story we must tell you that both vehicles are currently in the “show car” phase and it is unknown if they will ever make it into production.
