Aiming to bring some of the pizzazz and high-end feel from the Passat, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has introduced the Transporter T32 Sportline in Britain. It starts from £36,295, but it also lets everyone know you've spent a lot of money on your van.
The new Sportline grade is available on the T32 kombi model and features custom 18-inch bi-color alloy wheels that complement the black paintjob we see in this photo gallery.
The list of equipment also includes a lowered suspension system, and protruding front and rear bumpers. All this stuff reminds us of the Passat R-Line, especially since those headlights look like they belong on a sedan.
Carbon fiber mirror caps too much for a Transporter? Volkswagen doesn't think so, plus it also installed puddle lights.
The interior is just as well made, featuring a combination of red and black leather with white contrast stitching. Piano black inserts are used on the steering wheel and on the DSG gearbox shifter.
Only the more powerful engines are available, the standard one being a bi-turbo 2.0 TDI rated at 180 PS and matched to the 7-speed auto. Soon, you will also be able to order a 204 PS version of the same engine and even have it with a manual. But we think the one they've got is perfectly adequate.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles plans to expand the Sportline series in 2017 with the addition of panel van and additional wheelbase and transmission options.
The T-series has been around for 66 years and has sold 12 million units. The T6 dropped last year, replacing the very successful T5. The LED headlights you see in the photo gallery work together with Light Assist, which uses a camera to adjust, including dipping the main beam when an incoming vehicle is detected. You can even buy DCC suspension with adjustable settings.
