Taking advantage of the meeting with its dealers which took place in Atlanta, Volkswagen revealed to the American public what it calls “a busy year ahead,” a year filled with exciting premieres and a new lineup of vehicles intended for the North American market.
The list of cars to hit US and Canadian shores next year includes the NMS, Beetle, Tiguan and Eos. They will be accompanied on the market by the new Jetta and the new Touareg. All these models are planned to help the German manufacturer achieve its target of one million vehicles sold annually in the US by 2018.
“We have a clear vision: to take the Volkswagen Group to the top of the auto industry by 2018,” said Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen's chairman of the board.
“In terms of sales and profit; but also when it comes to the best team, best quality and best customer satisfaction. Size is not the essence for us, and size is not an end in itself, our focus is on quality growth.”
To help the expanded lineup and its sales performances on the local market, Volkswagen announced the opening of the new Chattanooga plant next year, a facility which will accommodate the production of the new midsize sedan (NMS).
“Our factory design is innovative, our plant is environmentally friendly and our workforce is producing a high-quality car that is designed with the North American driver in mind,” added Frank Fischer , the CEO of Volkswagen's Chattanooga Operations. "I am sure their visit to the plant will convince dealers that the plant is here and the NMS is real.”
