We are all used to hearing about one charity organization or another donating money, food or auctioning Super Bowl tickets to benefit those in need, but it's not often we hear about cars being given to those in need as a sign of good will.
Yet, these things happen, as the Morales family found out this Christmas. A charity called Cars 4 Causes decided that Edgar Morales, an Afghanistan veteran, his wife and their brand new baby were in bad need of a new set of wheels.
The car which arrived in Santa's bag for the Los Angeles family is not a Chevy, or a Ford, but a Volkswagen Phaeton donated to the charity by an undisclosed person.
“I can’t believe this surprise on Christmas Day! I am shocked and so grateful for this car,” said Edgar Morale. “Thank you very much to Cars 4 Causes and Project: Hollywood Cares. This car is perfect and it will be a huge help to me and my family.”
Cars 4 Causes is a different type of charity than the ones we are used to. The group accepts donations of everything with wheels and engines on them and then resells them, with the proceeds going to various programs.
Once a month though, one of the vehicles received is handed directly to a person or family in need of transportation.
“A main focus of Cars 4 Causes is to ensure that help goes where it is needed, so to see this final outcome of people’s charity is what it’s all about at the end of the day. This is a very fulfilling way for us to end the year, and also encouraging for continuing our hard work in 2011,” added Matt Smith Cars 4 Causes director.
