Automakers are now on a quest to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by streamlining their operations, as well as adding as much new green tech as is currently financially possible and viable. Volkswagen is one of these manufacturers, and they have just inaugurated a very large solar park, in order to provide power for their Chattanooga plant, in the United States.
They say it is the largest such array of its kind in the world, producing a peak power of 9.5 megawatts. The power is used to provide a green source of electricity for the nearby production facility, which currently builds the US version of the Passat.

According to the VW Group Officer for the Environment, Energy and New Business Areas, Wolfram Thomas, ‘The new solar park is an integral part of Volkswagen’s worldwide strategy of generating more and more power within the Group from renewable energy sources.

His statement is completed and complimented by that of Frank Fischer, CEO and Chairman of Volkswagen Chattanooga, who was quoted as saying: 'We are proud to inaugurate today the largest solar park of an automaker in USA. This facility is a key part of our ‘Think Blue. Factory.’ programme and further proof of Volkswagen’s worldwide commitment to environmental protection. Once again, we are setting standards in efficient, sustainable production.
