Volkswagen Golf R, Scirocco R Up for Grabs

Volkswagen yesterday announced that both the Golf R and Scirocco R are now available to order in Germany. Both models are especially customized to provide advanced engine performance mixed with outstanding fuel efficiency, the company said in a release.

The Golf R is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that develops 270 PS and 350 Nm of torque between 2,500 and 5,000 rpm. The four-wheel drive model goes from naught to sixty in 5.7 seconds (5.5 seconds if equipped with a DSG transmission) and goes on until a maximum speed of 250 km/h. It burns 8.5 liters of gasoline every 100 km (27.6 mpg) which is 2.2 liters or 21 percent less than its predecessor. The car is priced at 36,400 euro in Germany.

The Scirocco R is also powered by a 2.0-liter TSI engine that develops 265 PS. Thanks to a DSG transmission, the car achieves a fuel consumption rating of 8 liters/100km (29.4 mpg) while releasing 187 grams of CO2 every kilometer. It is limited to 250 km/h as well. The car comes with a price tag of 33,475 euro in Volkswagen's domestic market.

Both R models are offered with a pack of exclusive features that include 17-inch "Mallory" alloy wheels (18-inch optional), roof edge spoilers, R-designed bumpers, high-gloss radiator grill and a likewise black diffuser in the rear section. In the interior, sill panel strips show the R Line family resemblance, sport seats in new design "Kyalami" with R Line logo in the headrests, a sport steering wheel, pedal covers and footrest in stainless steel.
