The Amarok is VW’s attempt at conquering the double-cab pick-up market, with a vehicle which tries to bring some of the German brand’s familiar qualities to a sector where most rivals border on the agricultural. It also offers a pokey, yet unrefined BiTDI (twin-turbo) 2.0-liter engine, which used to develop 163 hp, yet now has been upgraded to make 180 hp.
This allows the Amarok to sprint from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 11 seconds dead, while still returning a very decent 8.0 l/100km (35.3 UK mpg / 29.4 US mpg). With the increase in power, its towing capacity has also been increased, to 3,000 kg (6,600 lbs) with the manual six-speed gearbox and 3,200 kg (7,050 lbs) for those equipped with a new eight-cog autobox.

Also, VW is now offering BlueMotion tech on the Amarok, which cuts fuel consumption to 7.6 l/100km ( 37.2 UK mpg / 30.1 US mpg), while emissions go down from 211 g/km of CO2, to 199 g/km. Along with the new tech, it also gains front and rear parking sensors, Bluetooth connectivity and new-design 19-inch rims.
