Developed as an alternative to pickup trucks such as the Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi Triton, the Volkswagen Amarok is all things to all men that need a reliable and potent workhorse. But if you need that extra bit of cosmetic spice, the German automaker offers you the limited edition Dark Label.
Slated to go on sale in the United Kingdom later this month, the right-hand drive Amarok Dark Label is sporting a £26,125 (OTR excluding VAT) starting price and only 300 examples are available. If you want to upgrade from the standard six-speed stick shift to the eight-speed automatic gearbox, that'll set you back a hefty £27,855 (OTR excluding VAT).

Both Dark Label models are offered with the best engine in the Amarok lineup - a 2-liter BiTDI diesel that's boasting with a bi-turbo setup and 180 PS. The mill churns out a hefty 400 Nm (420 Nm for with the eight-speed automatic) and a towing capacity of up to 3,000 kilograms (3,200 with the eight-speed automatic), which is more than enough to tow a small boat or a horse trailer. Only 50 manual units will be made, the rest 250 benefiting from the automatic and BlueMotion Technology (low rolling-resistance tires, Start/Stop and regenerative braking for improved economy).

Styling elements unique to the VW Amarok Dark Label include 18-inch Duban black alloy wheels, more prominent wheel arches and a distinctive underride guard fitted below the front bumper. Dark tined rear and side windows are also on the menu, together with smoked tail lights, side bars and footsteps finished in matte black, black rear bumper, grained door handles and B-pillars dressed in black foil.

Step inside and you'll be greeted by anthracite Alcantara upholstery and velour floor mats with Dark Label branding. In terms of equipment, you get leather on the gear gaiter and knob, a multi-functional steering wheel and a 6-inch media unit that can do satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. Heated mirrors and seats, electric windows and additional door dust seals round off the goodies list.

Last but not least, the pickup truck's bed can be had in one of three special coatings (Deep Black, Reflex Silver and Natural Grey). Optionals? The VW Amarok Dark Label has some of those as well. We'll highlight things such as a hard tonneau cover, Dark Label branded seat covers and hood protection, together with roof-mounted styling bar lights and blingy polished chrome door handles.
