A second sighting of this test prototype proves beyond any doubt that Volkswagen is indeed preparing a new set of headlights, with xenon projectors and LED daytime running lights, for the Amarok utility pickup.
With rivals like the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux, the VW Amarok update is well needed. The changes that are being prepared are small, but seem to reflect the design of the Golf hatchback. A wide U shape is used to convert the headlights to LED.
Since there's no actual need to test trim pieces, the Amarok could get a new lower grille insert with uninterrupted lines from one fog light to the other, much like the ones copied from the Golf to the Polo facelift last year.
Engine lineup will probably be carried over from the current model and should thus continue to be centered around 2.0 TDI power. However, potential customers have been asking for a V6 diesel, especially in Australia. At least year's Worthersee gathering in Austria, VW showed a 270 PS concept sports truck which might indicate they are at least considering taking the existing engine from a Touareg and putting it in a high-torque pickup.
