Shown to the world half a year ago, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N keeps making headlines. The electric super crossover has what it takes to put some of the fastest high riders in their place and just put its money where its mouth is by proving that it is fast on a twisty circuit, too.
The video you are about to watch shows the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N racing the stopwatch at the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife. Filmed back in October of 2023 and shared on Sport Auto's YouTube channel a few hours ago, it is almost ten minutes long.

As for the driver, Sport Auto turned to Christian Gebhardt, who put numerous fast cars through their paces at circuits all over the world. The experienced pilot drove the Korean company's battery-electric super crossover from start to finish in 7 minutes and 45.59 seconds.

What does that mean? That it was faster than the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series and the 996 Porsche 911 GT2. According to FastestLaps, it also beat the mighty Jaguar XJ220, Ferrari 599 GTB, BMW M3 GTS, Mercedes-AMG A 45 S, Lamborghini Murcielago, and a whole bunch of other rides.

It couldn't threaten the latest Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S, which was clocked at 7:45.34 with the same Christian Gebhardt holding the wheel. It also failed to beat the Audi R8, BMW M2 CS, Alpine A110 S, and Chevy Camaro ZL1, which crossed the finish line in 7:45, 7:42.99, 7:42.66, and 7:41.27, respectively.

At the upper end of the chart, we find the Mercedes-AMG One, with 6:30.70, followed by Manthey's Porsche 911 GT2 RS and McLaren P1 LM, which ran the course in 6:38.84 and 6:43.20, respectively. The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series did it in 6:43.62, the 992 Porsche 911 GT3 RS in 6:44.85, and the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ in 6:44.97.

Hyundai's Ioniq 5 N uses a pair of electric motors, one on each axle, which produce a combined 601 horsepower (609 ps/448 kW) and 641 hp (650 ps/478 kW) on Overboost. It needs some two-tenths over the three-second mark to push to 60 mph (97 kph) and has a 162 mph (261 kph) limited top speed. Its 84 kWh battery pack can be recharged from ten to 80% in just 18 minutes.

Besides the ultra-punchy motors, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N also features additional enhancements of the non-M models of the series, including a dedicated chassis setup, beefy brakes, and a sporty makeover inside and out. Drivers can choose between different modes that adjust the respective parameters accordingly, and it comes with standard Pirelli P Zero tires. Pricing for the U.S. market remains unconfirmed for now, but the model is bound to arrive at dealers nationwide this year.
