Vettel Hopes to Drive for Ferrari One Day

It seems the love story between Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari will not end very soon, as the former reiterated his warm feelings regarding a future get-together with the Italian team just around Valentine's Day.

Despite playing down speculations about his future in the series recently – and his Red Bull organization has totally backed him in this decision to keep quiet on the future – Vettel was quoted as saying to an Italian publication that he indeed fancies a move to Maranello. Rest assured though, he did not give any timeline for such a prospect to come true.

I would like to be on the podium at Monza with Ferrari,” said Vettel to Italian daily Libero, during the latest F1 group test at Jerez.

One day I do hope to be with the team from Maranello. However, I am happy to stay with Red Bull and even now there are a lot of Italians who support me,” he added, probably not wanting to stir anything up back at the Milton Keynes headquarters.

Sebastian Vettel is currently bind by contract to Red Bull for the upcoming 2011 season, with the Austrian team having the first option for another one year of extension until the end of the 2012 campaign. But while the Austrian team is trying to sign the reigning world champion until 2015, Vettel is still keeping his options open.

In case the 23-year old will not prolong his stay at Milton Keynes from 2012 onwards, he could join Ferrari from as early as 2013, when the contracts of both Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso run out. A few months back, talking about a potential dream team for his Maranello operations, Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo admitted he would like to see Alonso and Vettel battling for the world title in the all-red racing suits.
