Vettel Admits He Was Under Pressure in Turkey

While Sebastian Vettel is still staying by his initial comments following his incident with teammate Mark Webber – that he wasn't guilty of anything and that it was the 33-year old Australian who was to blame for his DNF – the German racer has however taken a slightly different approach in recent days.

In a recent interview with Motorsport Magazin, Vettel did not say that his move was careless, but did admit that he was under a lot of pressure to finally deliver his second race win of the season – after the bad luck he experienced this year – and this kind of situations can only lead to mistakes.

I've experienced situations like this many times before, in F1 as well as in other series, including karting. I've discovered the importance of keeping your ears and eyes open and learning from your mistakes,” said Vettel in the aforementioned interview, as reported by crash.net.

In the past, there have been occasions when I've missed out on a victory that was there for the taking. That put me under tremendous pressure and I'd be telling myself that I had to go all out in the next race. But that's just the sort of situation in which you're most likely to compound your errors and fail to produce your best performance,” added the German driver.

After the team met earlier this week to put an end to the Turkey Grand Prix drama, something that Mark Webber himself urged the Red Bull organization to do in recent days, Vettel admitted that what happened in Istanbul is water under the bridge and the most important thing right now is to secure the world title.

Admittedly, we don't have a line-up of former Champions, at least not as far as the drivers are concerned but I'm convinced that we do have a team of genuine contenders. Records are there to be broken, and that sort of achievement always looks good in retrospect. But that's not what counts at the moment. The important thing is to secure the title in the first place. And, if not in 2010, then next year - or even the year after,” concluded Vettel.
