Vehicle Software Assessment Repository from SAE

After earlier this week SAE International announced a partnership with Ford for a series of online training courses to automotive engineers worldwide, the organization revealed it has also improved automotive software development capabilities and created the J2746 Software Assessment Repository.

According to a statement from SAE, the repository is a secure online database system that facilitates accurate and secure sharing of corporations’ software development capabilities.

“This is an important step both in terms of improving the quality and reliability of automotive embedded software and reducing developmental costs,” Peter S. Abowd, President of Worldwide Automotive for Altia and Chairman of the J2746 Software Assessment Repository Committee, said in a release. ”This new repository promotes higher fidelity and more responsible disclosure of software development capability in a secure and easy-to-use format.”

According to SAE International, the fee for an organization to enter an assessment is $500. For a limited time, SAE International is offering a fee reduction of 25 percent. However, there is no fee to view information on the site. Assessed organizations can control who views their information.

As said, the partnership between SAE International and Ford will be offering six popular online courses on powertrain and problem-solving topics, as a way to extend Ford's engineering knowledge across the global industry.

More than 121,000 engineers and related technical experts in the automotive, aerospace and commercial-vehicle industries are a part of SAE International, that also comprises a charitable arm which supports many programs, including A World in Motion and the Collegiate Design Series.
