Despite earlier rumors that Valentino Rossi would be rejoining Honda, to at least try to relive the ‘glory days’, it seems that he will be, in fact, riding for Yamaha for the coming 2013-2014 season. He will ride along with his friend arch rival, Jorge Lorenzo, and with Casey Stoner’s retirement taken into consideration, Yamaha may struggle in the coming few seasons.
Rossi first joined Yamaha back in 2004, and he managed to achieve four Moto GP titles over a seven year period which concluded at the end of the 2010 season. He is currently 8th in the championship, with his future teammate, Jorge Lorenzo, at the top of the pack, with a comfortable 23 point lead ahead of the second place holder, Dani Pedrosa
According to Lin Jarvis, Yamaha Motor Racing’s Managing Director, "This announcement is once again excellent news for Yamaha. In June we were able to sign Jorge Lorenzo for the 2013-14 campaign and now we are able to confirm Valentino Rossi for the next two years. In doing so we have been able to put together the strongest possible team to challenge for victories and to promote the Yamaha brand.”
This announcement also marks the end of Rossi’s contract with Ducati, which will now automatically end at the conclusion of the 2012 Moto GP season.
