It’s a historic moment for Valentino Rossi this weekend, as he hits a glorious milestone in road racing this Sunday at Mugello, as he will be starting in his 300th GP race of the career. Funny thing, his 300th GP race takes place on an Italian track, even though it’s not the Misano circuit near his native Tavullia.
Though having finished the 2013 season just outside the podium, Rossi is doing better this year so far, sitting in the 3rd position, but only 2 points behind Dani Pedrosa, and seemingly happier with the new chassis Yamaha has brought him.

Even though catching the board leader Marc Marquez is more of a mathematical possibility than a real turn of events, Rossi looks very motivated to ride as good as possible and be a constant presence on the podium, even winning races. He knows that at 35, beating the 22-years-old Marquez is a really tough job, and he also says that he wishes he had met the actual champion earlier in the premier class… still the Doctor is definitely looking forward to give Marquez a hard time.

In fact, Rossi openly admitted that he is really considering a potential extended relationship with Yamaha for two more seasons, especially if the ascending trend is maintained until the summer break. On multiple occasions, when asked, Rossi said that the first half of the season will be crucial to his decision to keep on racing, and so far the odds to see him riding through 2016 look very good.

A 9-time World Champion, out of which an impressive 7 in the premier class, Rossi looks like returning to a better form in 2014, after 2 fruitless, frustrating years spent aboard Ducati machinery and a less-than-spectacular first year back in the seat of the Yamaha.

Valentino Rossi has won a total of 106 GP races, 80 in the premier class and stepped on the Moto GP podium for no less than 150 times. Remains to be seen whether his Italian fans will help him beat Marquez in the Sunday race and put a stop to his winning spree.
