Back in 2012 for the 2013 model year, the Challenger featured three powertrain options, beginning with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. The SXT in the videos below started life as a rental vehicle with said engine. Popping the hood reveals quite a different engine, though, namely a Viper-sourced V10 leviathan.
Save for the AutoZone-ish rear wing and those ACR decals, it sure looks fine. On closer inspection, however, you'll notice tires that would be more at home on a beat-up Civic than a muscle car with 600-odd hp.
Said tires come in the form of Fullway HP108s, meaning all-season rubber boots produced by Chinese outfit Qingdai FullRun Tyre Corp. In the name of all that is holy, how expensive is a set of Goodyears or Continentals nowadays? Chinese tires are woefully bad compared to big brand tires, and running all-weather shoes on a car this powerful is risky, to say the least…
Listed at auction with 7,245 miles (11,670 kilometers) on the clock, this 2013 model year Dodge Challenger SXT had 192,000 miles (308,994 kilometers) to its name back in 2022. The Carfax report shows no accidents whatsoever, and the underbody appears clean for a 10- to 11-year-old automobile with this mileage.
Currently located in Michigan, the Viper-engined Challenger boasts a Hellcat-like hood, Hellcat-inspired bumper covers, front canards, a front splitter, as well as a gloss-black diffuser out back, a decklid spoiler, and 2015-facelift taillights. Pictured on SRT-style wheels, the former rental car had its engine swap done in 2016. The seller purchased it back in 2022, complete with adjustable coilovers and bigger brakes.
Hopping inside reveals the factory stereo, black cloth on the seats, automatic climate control, and an SRT-branded steering wheel. The flat-bottom steering wheel is augmented by a red centering stripe. Look to the right, and you'll further notice a rather long shift lever for the Tremec-supplied manual tranny. An updated power steering system also has to be mentioned, along with a new radiator, thermostat, and temperature gauge. Said items were updated or installed in 2016, together with the Viper engine.
Listed with a high bid of $25,000 at the moment of writing, this exotic-sounding Challenger will be gone tomorrow, July 15. If you intend to bid on it, bear in mind that it may not pass the California smog check.
Whoever ends up winning the auction, there's no denying they'll have plenty of entertaining miles behind the wheel of this Challenger. Based on the intake manifold and valve covers, we're dealing with the 8.4-liter V10 of the ZB II, a.k.a. the fourth-generation Viper. Offered between 2007 and 2010 for the 2008 through 2010 model years, the ZB II packs 600 ponies at 6,000 rpm and 560 pound-feet (760 Nm) at 4,600 rpm.
