Telegram is often described as the number one alternative to WhatsApp, and given its number of users, such an assessment is correct.
Telegram has grown to become a very popular messaging app worldwide, with users enjoying the frequent updates and the unique features, such as secret chats, which provide them with improved privacy.

The application is also available on Android Auto, or better said, was available on Android Auto, as a recent update caused it to go missing mysteriously from the dashboard screen.

It all started in late December, as Telegram somehow went missing from the dashboard screen when an Android device was connected. It's unclear if the culprit is a Telegram update or a new Android Auto version, but both applications received new builds in December.

All users who complain about Telegram no longer being available in their cars run Android Auto 10.9, but I believe the culprit is rather the latest update received by the messaging app. It's not the first time Telegram has disappeared from Android Auto, and in all cases, it was the culprit for this confusing glitch.

Users who didn't update Telegram but already installed Android Auto 10.9 claim the app shows up correctly in their cars, suggesting Google's software isn't the one to blame.

Meanwhile, no workaround seems to exist, as someone says that not even a downgrade to an older Telegram version brings things back to normal. This is unusual, as a bug in the latest version should be fixed once the user installs an older update.

Google has already chimed in and asked for additional bug information, but it's too early to tell when a patch could land. The investigation takes a while, and it's unknown how many users are affected. However, multiple Android Auto users confirmed the problem on Google's forums, with the number likely to grow as more people receive the buggy update.

Everybody says that Telegram is no longer available in the app drawer after updating their devices to the latest app versions. As a result, they're not getting message notifications either. The issue happens on various mobile phones, including Xiaomi and Samsung devices, so it's not related to the brand and the custom Android version running on it.

The confusion surrounding this bug is unsurprising, considering the lack of information. Users have tried all the typical workarounds, but none seemed to bring things back to normal. It's also unclear what caused the issue, especially because those who hit the glitch claim they're also running a different Telegram version (someone says they were on version 10.4.5, while another user claims they installed 10.5.0).

Telegram has yet to acknowledge the problem, but considering the company typically ships updates regularly, I expect a new version to land in the coming days, possibly with more improvements for the Android Auto experience.
