urbanspace Joins Daimler car2go Program

Some two weeks before it goes public, Daimler’s car2go car sharing program has another partnership to praise about, being joined by real estate company urbanspace. Company employees and clients as well will be granted access to car2go’s fleet of 200 smart fortwo vehicles.

“urbanspace is committed to developing sustainable designs to accommodate Austin’s rapid urban growth,”
said Kevin Burns, founder and CEO of urbanspace. “car2go’s transportation solutions for downtown Austin are a perfect match for urbanspace.“

“urbanspace and car2go share a common vision of participating in Austin’s rapid growth while preserving what is so unique about the city and its residents,” said Nicholas Cole, President and CEO of car2go North America, LLC. “We are excited to partner with such a forward-looking, truly Austin company like urbanspace.”

In November 2009, Daimler launched the car2go pilot program in cooperation with the City of Austin. In February 2010, car2go joined forces with LIVESTRONG foundation. At the end of March, car2go signed a partnership with the State of Texas, while in April 2010 it welcomed the Entrepreneurs Foundation.

As said, the car2go mobility program will enter the general public phase, becoming available to all Austin, Texas residents, starting May 21. The project will be extended until November 2010. The fleet of vehicles can be accessed on demand and used for an undetermined period of time. In addition, it also allows users to make one way trips.

Daimler’s car2go uses an original payment system, charging users for the time in which they use the car, instead of the distance traveled.
