Daimler to Have a Strong Presence at Shanghai World Expo

The Shanghai World Expo 2010, which is scheduled to be held from May 1 until October 21, will see Daimler showcase its future-orientated drive technologies and mobility concepts that have been tailored to the specifications of the urban driving environment.

Fully in line with our strategy for sustainable mobility, we will present a broad spectrum of drive technologies at the World Expo. As well as electric cars powered by batteries or fuel cells, we will also present our innovative mobility project. The ‘flex mover’ concept also provides a visionary outlook of future possibilities for individual mobility,” said Dr. Thomas Weber, Member of the Daimler Board of Management for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development.

Following the event’s motto of “better city, better life”, Daimler will hold exhibitions on multiple presentation platforms. One of the company’s most important projects will be the “Road of Solution” exhibition, which will allow visitors to experience a smart electric drive model. The ultra-compact vehicle is powered by an electric motor, which draws its energy from a lithium-ion battery pack. Among other projects, Daimler will also exhibit the car2go project in the Urban Planet Pavilion.

In addition to that, Smart will team-up with Nestle at the Swiss pavilion, offering 20 smart “Swiss taxis” for attenders. The visitors can register for a ride online or can stop a “smart Taxi” for a ride in the Expo area.

As a leader in sustainable mobility and due to our long-term commitment to China, we are delighted to have the opportunity to take an active part in the Shanghai Expo,” said Ulrich Walker, Chairman and CEO of Daimler Northeast Asia.
