There seems to be no sign of financial trouble in the superyacht market, where fabulous pleasure craft continue to be built or sold for huge sums of money. One of the most recent top-level sales centers around Sarastar: the flagship of a luxury Italian brand, the bespoke luxury toy of an owner who designed the interior himself, and a Netflix movie star.
By all accounts, it's been an incredibly successful year for the luxury yacht market so far. Some of the largest superyachts that changed hands in 2023 include Arrow, asking for $154 million, and Ahpo (currently known as Lady Jorgia), which sold for a whopping $364 million. Other famous superyachts, like Lusine, Solo, and Sarafsa, also sold for big bucks, each gravitating around $100 million.

Compared to these, Sarastar seems much more modest, having recently sold for €35 million ($38.6 million). However, this doesn't make it any less glamorous or desirable. An Italian masterpiece, Sarastar is a relatively young yacht that debuted in 2017. Its high-class pedigree and memorable interior style made it an instant hit. The original owner himself, reportedly an Italian industrialist, envisioned the interior design.

An all-aluminum vessel, the Mondomarine flagship combines extravagant style and opulent amenities with top-notch performance. At nearly 200 feet (60 meters), it comfortably accommodates up to 12 guests, with a huge crew of 13 ready to cater to their needs. Performance-wise, twin MTU engines ensure a thrilling top speed of 19.5 knots (22.4 mph/36 kph) and a transatlantic range of more than 4,000 nautical miles (7,400 km).

Sarastar's opulent interiors boast things like fine marble floors, a back-lit onyx staircase, a sun deck with glass flooring, and a beach club that turns into a disco bar at night. Luca Dini, the acclaimed Florence-based designer, was behind Sarastar's dazzling exterior and interior, with considerable input from the original owner.

The Italian beauty was charming enough to be featured in a popular Netflix movie, the 2019 Murder Mystery, starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Although the movie production team didn't actually film onboard Sarstar, it used a mock-up of the glamorous yacht, portrayed in the blockbuster as the Mediterranean Queen.

With such a famous background and extravagant style, it's no surprise why Sarastar quickly found a new owner. Thanks to its great potential, it will most likely join the charter market soon. It "starred" in a movie and looks different than most contemporary yachts, although it's just as well-equipped; top that with adrenaline-pumping speed, and you have the perfect vacation and party yacht.

As for the used yacht market, it has already accumulated more than $1.5 billion. If the second half is similar, 2023 might become one of the most successful times for yacht sales in recent years.
