Keeping old bangers on the road is an admirable feat and most (modern) motorists wouldn’t be able to cope with the ownership experience brought along by a ‘wonderful’ rust bucket from the days when body panels were made using a hammer and sheer talent and skill.
According to UK road minister Mike Penning, as of November 18th, a new law will be passed allowing ‘old bangers’ to be driven legally on British roads, without an MoT. “They don't need to be told to look after them, they're out there in all weathers checking the condition of the engine, tyres and bodywork. Owners of classic vehicles will still be legally required to ensure that they are safe and in a proper condition but scrapping the MoT test for these vehicles will save motorists money," Penning said.

According to Autocar, 0.6% of all cars registered in the UK are pre-1960, but they are involved in just 0.03% of accidents. That says a lot about the discipline and the care that is put into classic car motoring in the UK - very admirable!

We say that there’s also a downside to this, with barn finds now put straight back onto the road by people with even less money than sense. It could get ugly if not controlled properly, but otherwise, a great initiative!
