Indian motorcycle manufacturer TVS (recently teamed up with BMW) announces two new bikes for the African market.
Africa is slowly becoming a very attractive market for the manufacturers of cheap, economic, small-displacement bikes, and two of the biggest of them, TVS and Hero, are all eyes on it. As Hero has made their first move on African soil in Kenya, TVS, with more than a decade of operations in this country was forced to strike back.
TVS officials announced that the Star line-up production will be established in Kenya, at their plant in Nakuru. Even more, two new bikes designed for the African consumers are already undergoing testing and will be available during the next 6 months.
Currently enjoying a hefty 27% market share in Kenya, TVS aims to grow to 40% in a few years' time. TVS has 75 dealers, 300 service points and more than 2,500 trained mechanics in Kenya, according to Economic Times.
Our Indian friends at Motorbeam suspect that the new bikes will not be exactly new, but tweaked versions of existing machinery.
