Ferrari has already outlined a new supercar development strategy a few month ago. About four years after every model is launched, they will re-engineer it from the ground up and give it a new identity, just like they did with the California convertible.
The next two cars on Maranello's agenda are the FF and the 458. A quintessential supercar daily driver, the 458 Italia will undergo major changes, which are expected to arrive some time in 2016. Even though it's won the Engine of the Year award on many occasions, the 4.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 is about to be replaced. Combined with a fresh face, this will give Ferrari a sharper blade to cut into McLaren 650S and Lambo Huracan sales.

Just like the California T, the 458 will get a new twin-turbo V8, likely displacing 3.8 liters. The output of this mill will is expected to be 670 horsepower, way more than even the hardcore 458 Speciale and Speciale Aperta. But the really important bit is the increase in torque, which is essential if the 458 is to stop losing drag races to the McLaren 650S.

Design chances are also planned, though Ferrari's employees have been reluctant to reveal details. This next rendering was recently released by Italian magazine Car Passion and has a hint of Lamborghini to it. We're not sure about that distinctive new front bumper that's been borrowed from the F60 America, but the 458 M will most definitely need those massive side air intakes to feed the hungry new engine some extra air.

The 458 M is reportedly going to bow at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show or a bit earlier than that. Until then, feast your eyes on this rendering and tell us what you think.

Editor's note: The current crop of Ferraris are the last naturally aspirated, non-hybrid stallions. They will have instant collector status, according to the racing drivers we've spoken to. Still, there's no getting around the fact that they will be considered slow.
