Triple Win for Petri Corse at Super Trofeo

The Italian race team Petri Corse began the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series with three victories, by overpassing fifteen Super Trofeo race cars. The team was the star of the inaugural race weekend, which was held at Adria International Raceway, Italy, on 16 May 2009.

On Friday’s 30-minute qualifying session, Fabio Babini and Claudio Rossetto secured themselves the pole position for the first race of the season with a fastest lap of 1:16.621. Round One was also a successful one for the team, by securing a first place from the penultimate lap until the end of the race.

Having won the first race, Babini started from pole for Round Two, and managed to maintain the team's position in the second half of the race. Babini and Rossetto completed their weekend with a third victory, despite several lead changes during the course of the 35-minute race.

“It has been a really fantastic weekend for us,” said Babini. “We have a great set-up and the car is very quick. The safety car restart in Round Three was very exciting; any of the top four drivers could have won. I know the track well, so I had an advantage at the start of the day, but all the other drivers have got faster very quickly, so it was a very exciting weekend!”

Team-mate Claudio Rossetto said, “This is my first race for a few years, so am very pleased with the result. The team did a fantastic job to put us in such a good position throughout the weekend.”

The Lamborghini Super Trofeo is a lightweight version of the Gallardo LP 560-4. The Super Trofeo comes with a reworked chassis and a power output of 419 kW (570 hp) from its V10 engine. The race car features Lamborghini’s permanent four-wheel drive, making the Super Trofeo the only one-make, all-wheel-drive motorsport series.

If you wonder what is the next step of the competition, let us tell you that the next Super Trofeo race weekend takes place at Norisring, Germany, on June 26-28 2009, but this time supporting Europe’s popular touring car series, DTM.
