Lamborghini Sets an All Time Record with the Trofeo

Lamborghini achieved something wonderful in Rome where Giorgio Sanna, test driver for the Italian manufacturer set the fastest lap times ever recorded with a single-brand trophy race car on the track.

The car is supposed to make its debut on the 2nd of May 2009 at Silverstone where contesters will race for 40 minutes without the opportunity to change tires. This will make the race hard for everyone, more dangerous than others, and much more exciting.

The Super Trofeo race car is based on the Gallardo LP 560-4, but the engine is tweaked so it now develops 570 hp because of direct fuel injection, it has a automatic gearbox and a permanent all-wheel drive with viscous traction, a special braking system, adjustable body components made of carbon fiber, an ultra light seat, and a racing steering wheel.

The constructor relied on the car's handling abilities to make it accessible and drivable for the general public. The Super Trofeo should be easy for gentlemen drivers to control, yet challenging for professional drivers," says Sanna. "The permanent all-wheel drive and high aerodynamic downforce give the Gallardo Super Trofeo exceptionally good handling."

The Super Trofeo will make guest appearances at six race events: at Silverstone (UK), on the Adria Raceway (Italy), on the Norisring (Germany), in Spa (Belgium), in Barcelona (Spain) and on Paul Ricard racetrack (France).

"We are well within our schedule, and will continue to push things forward," says Manfred Fitzgerald, Director of Brand and Design for Lamborghini and responsible for the Super Trofeo. "Ultimately, we want to provide our teams with a race car that is not only fast, but also perfectly reliable."

The constructor is building 30 cars for enthusiasts or Lamborghini dealer teams, including a car for the factory and they are planing to employ stars to drive the car.
