Traffic Stop Yields Large Drug Bust in Columbus

Officer William Thrasher stopped a green Ford Expedition as part of a routine inspection on 23rd street just past 4th Avenue North in Columbus, Ohio. What could have ended with just a license check quickly turned into a full big bust for the police after Thrasher began suspecting the driver of carrying illegal substances.

The officer contacted additional D.I.C.E. members after noticing the strong smell of marijuana coming from the car driven by Matayo Dajuan Kincaide, age 30, of 1074 Spivey Rd. in Columbus. After the search yielded a substantial find, D.I.C.E Supervisor Sgt. John Duke and Officer Thrasher placed Kincaide under arrest. The interesting fact of this story is that Kincaide actually granted the officers permission to search his vehicle. Weather it was an act of fear or guilt, we will never know, but his act will cost him a good number of his years behind bars.

Right after being granted permission, officer Thrasher located a small bud of marijuana in the passenger seat as well as a blunt in the ash tray. Upon a closer inspection of the vehicle, something stuffed where a stereo would normally be in the dash of the Expedition was clearly visible.

Inside the compartment, Kincaide had stuffed a small Crown Royal bag with over 2 ounces of marijuana, an 8-ball crack cocaine, a digital scale, and a massive wad of dollar bills that exceeded $1500. The Expedition was seized, and he was charged with Suspended Driver’s License, Improper Tag, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Marijuana. “This is the most I’ve ever gotten off of a single traffic stop,” Officer Thrasher remarked afterward.
