There is no longer any doubt that electric vehicles are here to stay. As you all know, they will not stay solely because carmakers have invested fortunes in them and they don't want to lose money, but also because state players are actively encouraging EV adoption, including by enforcing ICE vehicle bans from not too far in the future.
What that means is that sooner or later we will all have to make the switch to electric. Some of us can't wait for it, others are indifferent, and there are probably a few who, for various reasons, dread the moment.

Like it or not, we will all get to that point, as EVs seem to have become as unavoidable as death and taxes. So the only two questions that remain are when will you make the switch, and what car will be your first EV?

Whereas the answer to the first question depends on a variety of factors, including some that are out of our control, and can't really be objective, the answer to the second is much simpler: it all boils down to the best offer on the market for your particular needs.

If you live in Europe, something like this here Toyota Sport Crossover might be your very first electric car. In fact, that's exactly why the Japanese company has created it, to be an "attractive proposition for first-time electric car customers."

The concept is one of several Toyota unveiled on Monday, December 4, in Brussels, Belgium, during its event called Kenshiki forum. And, apart from the Urban SUV we discussed a little earlier, it is also the most attractive.

The Urban SUV is one of six full-electric vehicles Toyota plans to launch on the Old Continent in the first six months of 2024, and is about as impressive as an Opel Mokka in terms of design. It's also the cheapest of the bunch of six (it's unclear at this point exactly what that means), and that makes it not entirely spectacular.

The Sport Crossover is however an entirely different story. Set for market release in production form in 2025, it is a beautiful blend between a fastback and a sports car, big enough to appeal to SUV lovers without it actually being an SUV.

The Sport should become "a design icon for the company's dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) line-up" once it gets here. A five-door by design, it should have more than enough interior roof for passengers and a large enough trunk for plenty of cargo.

If the concept looks familiar is because it was shown before, during this spring's Shanghai auto show. The venue was chosen back then for the official presentation of the model because, like it or not, China had a hand in making this thing.

The concept is the result of Toyota working together with Chinese carmaker BYD on designing it, or more precisely the result of work conducted by the joint venture between the two, the one known as BYD Toyota EV Technology.

No details were provided on how the production version of the car for the European market will shape up to be from a performance standpoint.
