Most carmakers out there are still busy tying the loose ends and submitting the reports for the year that's about to finish, and that's how things are supposed to be. One of them, however, has already planted the first seeds for what's to come in 2024. And that's normal too, especially given the size and expectations of this particular carmaker.
It's Toyota I'm talking about, the Japanese carmaker that's been at the top of its industry for many years now. And we all know the best way to keep that position is to look ahead well in advance of others.

That's what the company is presently doing in Brussels, the capital city of European country Belgium. The Kenshiki forum, a major event for Toyota's efforts in this incredibly important market, is currently underway there, and it's filled with goodies and possibly exciting news for future products.

You see, Toyota plans the unveiling of no less than six full-electric vehicles over in Europe and elsewhere in the first six months of 2024, and the Kenshiki event is where we got our first glimpse at some of them, even if, for now, only in concept form.

Of interest to us now is the compact SUV Toyota will be bringing to the Old Continent next year, and shown on Monday, December 4, as the Urban SUV concept.

Not many details about the concept accompany the photos released by Toyota, but our eyes see a vehicle about the size of the Opel Mokka, meaning 4,300 mm long, 1,820 mm wide, and just 1,620 mm tall, but looking significantly smoother than the German machine, and than many other Toyota models too.

The production version of the SUV sitting before us now is meant to play the game in the B-segment, expected by Toyota to become "be one of the largest markets for BEVs in Europe." It will thus join the carmaker's existing hits there, including the best-selling Yaris Cross.

We're not told much at the moment about the production SUV this concept previews, but we do know it will be offered in both front- and all-wheel drive configurations, making for a very solid proposal for this kind of vehicle, playing in this particular segment.

Two battery choices will also be on the table, offering different ranges (and, of course, different pricing), but Toyota does not say anything about their capabilities at the time of writing.

The Urban SUV, or however the production version of the SUV will be called, is the most compact in the lineup of six EVs Toyota aims to present next year. We're also told it is the cheapest of them all, although what exactly that means remains for the time being a big unknown.

The Urban SUV and all the other electric vehicles coming our way with the Japanese carmaker's logo are part of the strategy for Toyota's Europe branch to sell only electrified vehicles by 2035. The goal was set as the company's carbon neutrality target on this continent should be reached by the end of the next decade.
