Toyota has announced that it will be offering a financing discount of up to $5,000 for those interested in buying their Prius Plug-In Hybrid Advanced model, while the regular version of the plug-in gets a $4,000 discount. The offer lasts until December 3, and it also includes 0% APR over a span of 60 months.
Furthermore, this can be cumulated with the $2,500 federal tax credit, so theoretical savings of $7,500 are possible, for those deemed eligible. With the relentless onslaught of highly-efficient diesel-engined cars in the US, Toyota and other manufacturers which rely on hybrids for a large chunk of their profits will undoubtedly want to keep their cars popular, and requiring their prospective buyers to pay less is one way of going about doing that.
The Prius Plug-In Hybird is quoted as having a combined MPG figure of 50, and a maximum all-electric range of 10 km (6 miles) - just enough to get you to the shops and back, without the 1.8-liter petrol engine having to run. Still, the best diesels can easily beat its efficiency figure, so its main real advantage is its (limtied) all-electric capabilities.
