Japanese automaker Toyota continues to grow on the US market, as May sales have gone up 2.3 percent (185,723 units) over the same period of time last year, on both volume and daily selling rate basis.
In addition, the Toyota Camry remained the best-selling car in the United States of America, with 39,216 examples delivered, while the all-new RAV4 recorded its best-ever May sales with 20,780 units. "New vehicle sales are heating up along with the weather, and solid May results coupled with an excellent Memorial Day weekend provide great momentum as we move into the summer selling season," said Bill Fay, Toyota Division group vice president and general manager. "The five-year high in consumer confidence translated into especially strong retail sales and as the industry leader last month, we're well-positioned to provide the vehicles customers want."
Luxury car division Lexus reported sales of 22,229 units in May, which translated into an increase of 3.6 percent. According to the Japanese company, LS and ES sale grew 117 and 100.5 percent respectively.
