The Toyota Camry might be the best selling car in the US, but world-wide, the Corolla rules everything. In fact, 40.22 million Toyota Corollas have been sold since its introduction in 1966. And judging that around 60 percent of them might still be on the roads, there are high chances this is the first car an alien race will see if they ever visit us.
And the meter is still going as last year Toyota sold 1.22 million Corollas in approximately 150 countries and regions around the world, which is 5 percent more than in 2012. However, we mention that the count includes the classic Corolla sedan and its other variations like the Corolla Axio, Altis, Fielder and EX.

“The Corolla stands as the international face of Toyota and touches millions of people across the globe every day,” said Bill Fay, Toyota division group vice president and general manager.  “Being the world’s best-selling car speaks volumes about the satisfaction and loyalty our customers feel about the Corolla and Toyota.”

Regarding US sales alone, the Corolla has been sold in more than 300,000 units in 2013, representing a 4 percent year-on-year increase. Around 97 percent of them were built in North America which also helped with local economy.

In the last quarter of 2013 Corolla sales were also boosted due to its redesigned version, coming with a bolder design oriented towards younger buyers, more quality materials, more equipment and improved handling. The Corolla also got named as Top Safety Pick in 2013 by IIHS and was awarded a 5-star rating for overall safety by the NHTSA, further increasing its reputation.
