Up until February this year, Australia had only one type of Corolla in its lineup - a rebadged Auris hatch which was being imported from Japan. But now, Aussies benefit from the normal Corolla sedan sold throughout Europe and Asia, thanks to a Free Trade Agreement existing between Australia and Thailand, from where it’s being imported.
And it looks like the new Corolla sedan was exactly what it was needed to boost the nameplate’s sales, topping the charts with 4,086 deliveries with the sedan making for over one-third of the model’s total sales in March. Combined sale figures for the Corolla hatch and sedan were 22.6 percent higher than in February and 16.3 percent higher than March 2013.

Corolla’s success, along with an all-time record for RAV4 of 1,888 units sold ensured Toyota posting its best month so far this year with a total of 18,275 and its strongest first-quarter since 2010 registering 48,121. This is more than 20,000 units over its nearest rival.

The Toyota Hilux was another strong contributor for March sales with 3,105 deliveries which put it in top of the country’s best-selling four-wheel-drive and light commercial vehicles. Next comes the locally-built Camry sedan with 2,085 units, the Land Cruiser Prado at 1,719, Land Cruiser wagon with 812, new Hiace van at 641, followed by the GT 86 with 397 units and the HiAce bus with 265 deliveries.
