The Asian-market version of the Corolla looks a lot different to the one made in Europe. It also doesn't look anything like the third generation Corolla, which Toyota points out is on the left in the photo above. Thanks a lot!
Anyway, the celebratory model is called Corolla Axio Hybrid G 50 Limited. They are only going to make 500 of these, each sold for 2.4 million yen starting September 1st.
There are numerous touches, both big and small. For example, the borrowed the exterior finish from the original and also brought back the "crown of flower" logo for the trunk.
In addition to the White Pearl Crystal, there's also the option to order it in Black Mica. Standard features include LED head lights and 16-inch alloy wheels with 185/55R16 rubber.
The single primary reason we'd consider buying this particular edition (if we lived in Japan) is the customized interior. The red leather leaves a very colorful impression, together with all those red accents for the dash and door trim. Also, there's a black roof liner that's specific to this car and special logos embossed into the backrests.
If you are interested in buying it, know that the special tribute edition will be displayed together with the 50-year-old original at the Makuhari Messe. All models will get the Hybrid G powertrain, which consists of a 1.5-liter engine that delivers 100 hp together with its electric helpers.
