As Scion sales are dropping in the US, Toyota Motor Corporation chief Akio Toyoda is encouraging the dealerships to hang on as a change will arrive soon.
Speaking with Automotive News, Toyoda said that the company is currently prioritizing more urgent matters, like the investment into Lexus’ refreshment and recovery from the global financial crisis, 2011 earthquake and unintended-acceleration recalls.
"We will continue with Scion," said Toyoda. "But Toyota has limited resources. We need to prioritize. I have been telling them they will have to wait a few years."
However, he also said that much of the current Scion lineup is due for a redesign process, encouraging dealerships not to drop the brand so soon.
Much of the transformation will happen in 2015, when the first Toyota New Global Architecture-developed cars will be made.
