Toyota Motor Corporation was honored this month at the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) Awards hosted by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, for its ongoing efforts to promote a sustainable society.
The Japanese automaker Toyota was one of the first automakers to respond to the implications of mass production and disposal of vehicles. In 1970, Toyota and Toyota Tsusho Corporation founded Toyota Metal Co., Ltd., the first end-to-life vehicle shredding plant established by an automaker.

Toyota and Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., shared this month a Rare Metal Recycling Award from the Japan Environmental Managements Association for Industry presented earlier at the Awards for Resources Recirculation Technologies and Systems.

The automaker also recycles rare metals like tungsten, NiMH batteries, motor magnets and other materials from non-hybrid vehicles. Read more in the press release bellow.
