Even if today’s world of senseless violence, this incident can easily steal the crown. A 35-year-old man from Boca Raton who had traveled to New York to attend a family wedding, was punched to death by a driver he mistook for his Uber driver.
Sandor Szabo had flown in to NY for the family event. Over the weekend, he called an Uber to get back to his hotel room from his brother’s hotel, and went out on the street to meet with the driver, People magazine reports, citing local media.

A white SUV pulled in and Szabo assumed that it was his Uber, so he went over and knocked on the window to be let in. According to the police report, the driver got out and almost immediately punched Szabo in the face, sending him to the ground. He hit his head on the pavement and started chocking on his blood.

The driver hailed a male passerby, a teenager, and with his help, propped Szabo against a parked car. He left him there to die, driving off in his white BMW X3.

Szabo was taken to a nearby hospital, but didn’t survive. The teenager told the cops that “Me and the man, we picked him up and leaned him against a car so he would stop choking on his blood until the ambulance came.”

Police released CCTV footage of the white SUV and its driver, “described as bald, with dark skin,” in the hope the public could aid in his identification. Anyone with information about him is asked to reach out to the NYPD.

As of this moment, the report doesn’t mention anything about an altercation or a possible motive for the suspect to become physically aggressive towards Szabo. This wouldn’t excuse his criminal gesture, but it would, at the very least, make a modicum of sense.
