May 24th. That's when you'll be seeing the latest Fast & Furious installment on cinema screens worldwide. As usual, the 6th movie in the series will be featuring a couple of most interesting cars.
Amongst them we'll be seeing the BMW M5 for the first time. However, it will not be the current model, but the previous one, the E60, with its monster V10, high-revving engine.
According to Dennis McCarthy, the man in charge of building the cars you see on screen, in an interview he gave Top Gear earlier this year, they had about 12 M5s at their disposal to shoot some scenes. Out of the dozen, most of them were totaled, but that's just the name of the game.
"So we had this one sequence with a whole fleet of BMW M5s. I think we had about 12 in total. It's a great car, the M5. All we did for those driving scenes was to unplug the ABS brakes - which deactivated the traction control - welded the spider gears together, and that was it. We pretty much destroyed every single one. I think maybe one survived," said Dennis.
This will be the first time we'll get to see BMWs in a Fast and Furious movie and it's all because the action takes place, partially, in Europe and not because of some marketing scheme from BMW.
