Usually when you witness drag racing, the competitors are pretty close in terms of performance. Today's 1/4-mile road warriors are no different. At least on paper, because when rubber meets tarmac, one simply destroys the other like there's no tomorrow.
Now let's meet our vibrantly yellow- and orange-painted contestants. First up, we have the beast from Japan, the 2023 Lexus LC500. Not to be confused with the LC500h, which is much lower in power output.

This baby came packing a 5.0-liter V8 naturally aspirated engine that can produce up to 471 hp (478 ps) and 398 lb-ft or 540 Nm of torque. It's too powerful for your garden variety manual gearbox, so it uses a 10-speed automatic transmission system and rear-wheel drive.

Lexus advertises the LC500 to reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. This land boat weighs 4,371 lbs. or 1,982 kg, and its price tag hovers around $100,000, which is nothing to scoff at.

The classic Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe is the other Skittle-colored monster. With a never-dying style, this 911 came equipped with a slightly humbler 3.0-liter flat-six twin-turbo engine that can deliver up to 420 hp (426 PS) with 368 lb-ft (499 Nm) of torque.

It's RWD as well and uses a 7-speed PDK transmission system. The starting price is $131,300 in the US.

While it has less power on paper than the mighty Lexus, the Porsche is a lot lighter to compensate. Its curb weight is 3,300 lbs. or 1,497 kg. This is where the 911 coupe should have an advantage over the LC500.

Before getting to the main event, they went for a couple of roll races first. When they hit 32 mph or 50 kph, they floored it. Or at least the Porsche did, because it launched like a rocket. By the end, there was a train length between the two of them.

The second attempt had them accelerating fully from 44 mph or 70 kph. The result wasn't any different. The 911 took off like a bat out of hell, with no hope for the Lexus LC500.

Finally, it was time for the drag race. Both cars had a perfect start, and for a second, it was neck-and-neck. But the Porsche kept its no-nonsense winning streak and blasted off into the sunset, leaving the $30,000 cheaper Lexus in the Canadian dust, where this entire race occurred.

The difference between the two cars was so huge there was no point in racing them again. Try as it might, the Lexus LC500 has no chance in front of the Porsche 911 Carrera S.

Unfortunately, we didn't get any exact time readings. Usually, Sam from the Sam CarLegion YouTube channel, who hosted this race, provides the 0-60 mph acceleration and 1/4-mile finish times. It might have been to embarrassing for Lexus. Who knows?

Now let's face it, both cars are gorgeous and have outstanding performances, and while the 911 crushed the LC500, it's still $30,000 more expensive, which is something to think about.
