Right now, there's a big clash between the old-school part of the automotive industry and the novel EV lifestyle on top of the paradigm change that sees passenger cars turning into veritable endangered species as crossovers, SUVs, and trucks climb to the top of the automotive food chain.
Climate change is a fact, no matter what some people try to persuade us into thinking – just look at what is happening worldwide regarding extreme weather phenomena. As such, everyone needs to do their part and try to lower their carbon footprint – and maybe that includes switching your go-to weekend racer to a battery-powered vehicle.
Naturally, the most popular choice would be Tesla, but that doesn't mean there aren't any other options. For example, the videographer behind the Wheels channel on YouTube is a big fan of MRP and Bandimere, and he recently compiled a great video showing lots of ICE versus EV brawls.
The accent falls on Bandimere Speedway, aka 'Thunder Mountain' in the NHRA circuit, a quarter-mile dragstrip located just outside Morrison and Lakewood, Colorado, which is where the action starts with a Tesla Model 3 meeting a widebody Dodge Challenger Hellcat. That's a Redeye, by the way, so no wonder the EV tried to bite more than it could chew and ended up losing the close encounter of the ICE vs. EV degree.
Next came a feisty-looking green S550 Ford Mustang GT that dared to challenge a Tesla Model S Plaid but didn't even know how to launch correctly, in the nick of time, at the green light. So, the result was absolutely horrendous: 9.71s (Plaid) versus 13.65s (Mustang GT). Luckily for the ICE representatives, next came a sibling rivalry between the Mustang GT and Mustang Mach-E, where the traditional representative of the muscle car breed honored its legacy and won.
By the way, we recommend staying on with the action even past these three cool encounters for more Tesla versus Mopar action and also a couple of meteoric apparitions from the past at the 5:35 and 8:35 marks, plus some Chevy appearances (both Camaro and Corvette) to make sure the Detroit Three triumvirate is well represented.
As for the Mission Raceway Park intermezzo, that one occurred at the 7-minute mark as a reminder of a feisty encounter between a well-prepped Dodge Challenger and a blue Tesla Model S Plaid. That one was a race for the ages where the feisty Mopar took command of the skirmish with a great launch, followed by the incredible Tesla recouping all lost ground and going on to win the brawl with a fantastic 9.44s versus 10.06s result!
Frankly, I can't wait for Dodge to release the production version of the Charger Daytona SRT concept and see if the top Banshee EV model can duke it out with the Plaids on equal grounds!
