This One-Off 1981 Suzuki GS550E Reminds Us of a Classic Ducati 900SS

The bike you see here is a fascinating one-man exploit created by Mohd Nasir. At its core, this sexy piece of bespoke machinery comes from Suzuki’s 1981 GS550E range, and we can probably all agree that Nasir’s painstaking efforts have paid off. Let’s take a second to examine what’s at hand here, shall we?

Within its frame, the 1981 bike comes equipped with an air-cooled DOHC inline-four powerplant that houses eight valves and a healthy displacement of 549cc. This mill will be more than happy to generate as much as 49 hp at 9,000 revs, along with 31 pound-feet (42 Nm) of crushing twist at about 7,500 rpm.

A six-speed transmission distributes the engine’s force to the rear 18-inch wheel via a chain final drive, resulting in a generous top speed of 112 mph (181 kph). Furthermore, Suzuki’s beast is perfectly capable of running the quarter-mile in no more than 13.7 seconds, which isn’t too bad for a mid-range machine produced during the ‘80s.

Borneo’s gifted moto artist kicked the transformation off by cleaning the GS550E’s frame and powder-coating the structure to achieve a neat aesthetic. Additionally, he thoroughly rebuilt the laced wheels, while subjecting the 549cc inline-four mill to a complete overhaul to have it perform like a marvel once again.

Next, Nasir treated the bike’s rear end to a pair of adjustable shock absorbers from Sayasuka. At the front, you will find aftermarket clip-ons with bar-end mirrors gripping the revised fork legs, as well as twin gauges that keep the cockpit free of any clutter. For a serious dose of additional stopping power, the front brake setup received top-grade twin discs.

The next step consisted of outsourcing a retro-style front fairing resembling that of a classic Ducati, along with a Honda Hornet’s handsome leather saddle. As soon as these items were fitted onto the GS550, the project’s mastermind went about manufacturing a heat-wrapped four-into-one exhaust system in-house. Last but not least, the whole thing was enveloped in a gorgeous color scheme reminiscent of Wes Cooley’s iconic Yoshimura Suzuki racing livery.
