So long as they've been infected with the motoring virus, every petrolhead has a favorite muscle car. Whether it is the previous-gen Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Dodge's Challenger Demon 170, Chevy's Camaro ZL1, or something from the old age, each model deserves a place under the spotlight – as long as it has a V8 engine under the hood.
To some, the best muscle car ever made was the Pontiac GTO, and if you feel the same, then you are precisely where you should be, especially if you want to spruce up your collection with a fine example. Part of the second generation, the one pictured above came out in 1970, and it would be a welcomed addition to most garages.

However, only a lucky enthusiast will get to enjoy it after paying a small fortune for it. More about the Benjamins in a few moments, as first we have to tell you that it has matching numbers. The factory air conditioning is on deck and presumably working, and if you pop the hood open, you will see the 400 ci V8. The 6.6-liter engine was offered alongside the 7.5-liter (455 ci) unit, and numerous variations made up the lineup, both with manual and automatic transmissions.

Finished in Polar White, with a matching rag top over the tan leather interior, this one has two pedals and 350 horsepower available at a hard push of the right one. It looks good on the outside, where it only appears to need a good polish and some TLC to go into the folding soft top, and it is even better on the inside. The cabin is home to a thin three-spoke steering wheel and the original radio, and it has seating for five, although three might be a crowd on the rear bench, especially on longer drives.

This 1970 Pontiac GTO Convertible has 44,222 miles (71,168 km) on the odometer, according to Garage Kept Motors, which does not say anything else about it in the ad that you can access here. Well, make that anything bar the asking price, of course, which puts it out of reach for most muscle car enthusiasts. To make it yours, you will have to pay $89,500 to the vendor.

Mind you, that's straight-up new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray money, and we don't know about you, but the idea of having a fresh mid-engine sports model rather than an old timer that comes with the hassle of constantly breaking down sounds more appealing to us. But you obviously do not have to agree, and if your heart tells you to go ahead and buy this GTO, then by all means, do it. Just make sure your head tells you the same.
