The fourth generation Chevrolet Corvette (C4) is one of the most iconic sports cars in American automotive history. It rode on a completely new chassis and featured sleeker and more modern styling than its predecessor, the C3. Actually, compared to the C3, the C4 looked like something out of a Transformers cartoon, which was probably the point all along.
Designed under the supervision of Dave McLellan, the C4 became the first ever production Vette to feature a glass hatchback. Meanwhile, the roof panel itself was removable and on the inside, you got this fancy electronic dashboard with LCD instrument cluster displays. This was truly an underrated car in terms of both design and execution.

If you already happen to be a fan, you’ll be thrilled to learn that this particular Light Blue 1984 example is currently up for grabs and aside from having just 42,800 miles (69,000 km) on its 5.7-liter V8, it also comes with an American Custom Industries body kit, consisting of a new nose, side panels and rear bumper, to go with a reasonably large rear wing at the back.

The presence of that elongated nose immediately takes us back to the Knight Rider TV series, where one of KITT’s most recognizable features was its custom front end – also built using an elongated nose. The only thing missing from this Corvette is a Cylon-like “scanner” at the front. Meanwhile, the sides are dominated by Testarossa-like side strakes, although they’re a lot less prominent than the ones used by Ferrari.

Meanwhile, at the rear, aside from the muffler delete, the only thing worth mentioning is that spoiler, which might just be a tiny bit too large for the Corvette C4’s dimensions. Personally, I would have gone with a smaller design, like the one used in Knight Rider – KITT's rear spoiler was quite subtle, yet you always noticed it.

Anyway, other highlights regarding this vehicle include the 17-inch alloy wheels, pop-up headlights, leather upholstery inside, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, power windows, door locks and mirrors, air conditioning and a custom Sony head unit. As for flaws, there are some scratches, chips and various cracks, but the interior looks fairly well-maintained.

Granted, this is far from a mint condition ride, and the fact that the highest bid is just $7,000 with 4 days left to go in the auction speaks volumes about just how desirable, or rather undesirable this car might be. Still, regardless of which side you’re on, you’ve got to admit that at the very least, this is an interesting-looking Corvette, and it’s all because of that body kit.

Now, if you want to see what an immaculate C4 Corvette looks like, get a load of this stunning 1990 ZR-1 wearing Bright Red.
