If there's one country that has been at the forefront of adventurous and on-road living, it's Australia. It's here that I ran across Wonder Roo and their Couples range of travel trailers, or as they call them in the land down under, caravans.
Sure, they're called a little something different over in Australia, but no matter how you look at it, a caravan is a travel trailer. Well, the lineup of machines we'll be meeting today is on a whole different level than what we may be used to seeing. Not only are these babies built like a bag of bricks, but the level of interior comfort that Wonder Roo gives rise to is well above what the American and European markets can offer for this price range, to say the least. Stick through to the end for a major surprise.

Now, most people haven't heard of Wonder Roo before, and that's perfectly fine. After all, if everyone knew of this crew's existence and what they're up to, I'd be out of a job. I had trouble finding out precisely when Wonder Roo popped up, but that doesn't mean that the work they do is any less worthy of attention. Part of the story of why these babies are so revered is because of the way Wonder Roo crafts their units with TOG welded aluminum frames, making them light, durable, and weatherproof.

As for the Couples lineup, this class of travel trailers is just that, built for those that are looking to travel alone, experiencing personal and intimate magic along the way. But, by the looks of things, you could house a couple of extra guests in a modular dinette, depending on the unit and floorplan chosen, but in essence, these puppies are like tango; it takes two.

Overall, units are available ranging in sizes from a tad under 18 ft to 22 ft, so take the time to find the unit that's right for you. However, it's the size of these units that grabbed my attention, but rather the interior design and just how clean these units look. As I explored all the class has to offer, I couldn't help but notice a very European styling, something we're seeing more and more of these days in countries outside Europe.

Sure, these babies are built to withstand the harsh Australian landscape, and we'll get to what that means shortly, but for now, I want you to kick back and imagine yourself hanging out in a Couples travel trailer. Scroll through the image gallery halls and notice how these puppies are arranged. Then place yourself in the center of it all and witness the near-perfect galley blocks, how they place everything at your fingertips, and invite you to unfurl your cooking skills. Yes, only for you and your significant other.

Once you're set with the plating and all that, make your way to the dining area. Here, owners can access either booth seating or kick back on a pair of lounge seats, all the while enjoying a view of the world around or simply jamming out to their favorite tunes. Why not a bit of TV? Although, a TV when you're out there to get in touch with the natural world seems a bit out of place.

One other area I personally enjoyed is the bathroom that these units include. Sure, it may seem a bit odd to bring this area to light, but by using their brains, the team at Wonder Roo was able to craft countless variations. As a result, you're able to find everything from a wet bath to full en-suite bathrooms with separate features. Even their placement changes with each unit, giving future owners near-infinite options to choose from.

Now, one of my favorite units from this class is the 22 ft one, the largest. As for why I enjoy it so much, well, it has a whole lot to do with the way it's set up. On one end, a massive island bed invites you to spend the night and rest your weary bones, while at the opposite end, a large U-shaped dinette spans the entire width of the camper. In short, this one's for entertaining guests. Even the bathroom is placed in such a way as to preserve the privacy of your bedroom.

As for the exterior features these babies have in store, they're in line with some of the industry's most notorious brands. Everything from solar panels and awnings to pass-through storage and countless lockers for goods, gear, and others. If you manage to throw on a couple of e-bikes or kayaks, you're set for one hell of a summer vacation. Take the time to bring along an outdoor dining set, maybe even a tent annex.

So, how much is all this going to cost you? Well, it depends on a few factors. The first is the size of your unit. Then, it's the features. After that, it's the middleman (dealer). But, most importantly, you can only grab and use these babies in Australia. Why? Because they're built with different road regulations in mind. Even electrical systems are a tad different out there. With all that in mind, you can expect to find smaller units starting at around $75K Australian, which is roughly $50K American. Not bad at all if you ask me, and something to consider if you live in Australia or are looking for some inspiration as to what a travel trailer done right really means.
