The V8-Powered Kitchen Sink Cadillac

This kitchen on wheels could be regarded by some a perfect vehicle for a lady, but then again... the best cooks out there are men. Some design studies made by automakers could pass as extravagant dream cars, and the following 1956 Cadillac Sixty Special beats them all: it contains a full-service kitchen where a front passenger should sit.

Dubbed the Maharani, the vehicle includes a set of culinary appliances, including a toaster, refrigerator, hot plate, cutlery holder and the aforementioned kitchen sink.

Built by General Motors for its 1956 Motorama Show, the Maharani, more commonly known among collectors as the Kitchen Sink Cadillac, was among the 2,500+ vintage vehicles offered at the collector-car auctions in Arizona last week.

The Maharani, named so in reference to the wife of a maharajah, has a pre-sale estimate between $150,000 - $200,000.

Seating and door panels are covered in a color-coordinated snake skin-pattern bolster, complemented by golden satin-print insert fabrics. Plush mouton fur carpeting covers the floors, and the engine bay retains the original Cadillac engine, as well as the beverage and water supply tanks.

Power steering, brakes and windows are included, and the driver’s seat can be adjusted electrically. A factory AM radio is still mounted in the dashboard as is the auto-wind clock. The car shows only 1,700 miles on the odometer and wears its original 54-year-old Firestone tires, the NY Times reports. However, most of the gadgets are not in operational condition since they have not been used in decades.
